These natural skin care products are easy to make at home for superior bath body care.

It is possible to get away from the harsh chemicals, perfumes, and even addictive ingredients added to many moisturizers and lip balms. Natural beeswax both moisturizes and protects skin from water and wind. The benefits of coconut oil include superior moisturizing. The following simple and easy recipe uses these two ingredients, beeswax and coconut oil, to yield an all-natural, biodegradable product that gives superior results to people with chapped or dry skin.

Supplies Needed

  • Clean beeswax
  • Coconut Oil
  • Double Boiler
  • Kitchen Scale
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Wide-Mouth, Heat Resistant Cosmetic Container

How to Clean Beeswax

If you have bought beeswax that still has dirt in it, this is easy to fix. Simply put your beeswax into an old nylon stocking and tie off the end. Place this in the top of double boiler and water in the bottom. Heat until the wax melts. The dirt will remain trapped inside the stocking. Throw the stocking away and pour the clean beeswax onto greaseproof paper if you are not going to use it right away.

The Process

  1. Use your kitchen scale to measure equal portions by weight of beeswax and coconut oil.
  2. Melt the two together in the top of a double boiler. Stir gently with a spoon to mix.
  3. Pour the hot liquid into a wide mouth cosmetic container.
  4. Allow to cool.

A Few Tips

High quality coconut oil can be found in natural food shops and grocery co-ops. Look for organic coconut oil. Bulk coconut oil can be found for purchase online.

Beeswax can be obtained from beekeepers and some specialty stores. Dadant & Sons is a supplier of beekeeping necessities, and they also sell beeswax.

It is recommended that you melt any kind of wax in a double boiler that will not be used for food.

Use a wide-mouth cosmetic container made from hard plastic or pyrex glass. Do not use a container that will melt or break when subjected to hot temperatures.

How to Use This Wonderful Skin Balm

When cool, this combination of beeswax and coconut oil will be firmer than body butter. The warmth of your hands, however, will soften it. Scoop a little out with your fingers and hold in your palm. When warm, you will be able to spread this balm over your lips for superior, non-addictive chapstick.

This balm works extremely well for people who must wash their hands often. Spread the balm over your hands just like a hand cream. In addition to moisturizing your hands, the beeswax will create a barrier or shield to protect your hands from the drying effects of frequent washing.

This balm is also very healing and beautifying on patches of dry skin such as knees, elbows, and heels.

The joys of this product include its simplicity, its earth-friendly ingredients, as well as its superior healing and protection of skin.
