Many prefer to be outdoors, but some time spent indoors is unavoidable. Evoke the elements of nature when decorating indoor spaces.
Many people spend much of their lives indoors by necessity although their intelligence and soul have bonded with nature. If you are one of them, open your eyes to the decorative effect of nature when walking, biking, or gardening. Then, bring your ideas indoors. Don’t settle for artificial clutter and unnatural decorating colors and materials. There is so much that can be done to bring natural sights, sounds, and feelings into the home and office. Sunlight and WindowsSunlight is cheerful and uplifting and absolutely necessary for human health. If you are building a new home, don't skimp on the windows. If you work at home or anytime you are spend time indoors, pull the curtains open wide. At work, if you’re lucky enough to have a view, look outside often. If you are tied to a desk, computer, and telephone consider moving your indoor life to a room that allows you to see as much of the outdoors as possible. Open your windows whenever the weather permits. Make your windows the central attraction of your room. Hang birdfeeders from upper frames and attach window boxes to the lower ones. Even though your view beyond may be of concrete and cars, your immediate view can be lush with flora and fauna. Indoor GardensIndoor gardens can be practical or fanciful. Grow herbs in the kitchen or paper-whites on your desk or side table in a container of ice-like quartz crystals. Due to the crazy weather that has resulted from global climate change, daffodils and azaleas that bloom out of season and broken branches can be gathered up and brought inside to display in a vase. Nature-themed ArtworkChildren’s art and your digital photographs can become screensavers, refrigerator or bulletin board decorations, or frame fillers. Many naturalists can’t stop taking photos and with the advent of digital photography the photographer’s environmental footprint is tiny. Click away and enjoy the views of nature from backyard gardens, trips to the park, and eco-travels. Natural MaterialsChoose natural products for cleaning. Wood and natural fabrics can make up floors, walls, and furniture. Add a touch of paint in shades drawn from green plants, brown soil, and blue skies. A small trickling fountain or gentle wind chimes can add notes that resonate with you and your core values. Spend time shopping at the outdoor mall. There are many naturally decorative pieces along roadsides and paths that you can use as simple decorative pieces. Stones and shells connect you to what you value and make a statement about your feelings for the natural world.
