Did you ever wonder about doing your own home steam facials? You can have all of the benefits without paying a high cost for the treatment at a beauty salon.
Regular facials deep cleanse the skin and with regular use can improve the skin's appearance. There are a few important steps to take when doing a facial. A powerful deep cleansing facial may bring up blemishes that are already in the skin so be aware that the first two deep cleansing facials can cause breakouts for a few days. Heat Water For A Steam Facial. Before your facial, gently heat enough distilled water to fill a shallow wide bowl. It does not have to be boiled hard, just heated enough so that the steam will last for up to five minutes. If you are adding herbs, bring the water to a boil so that you may steep the herbs and still have steam left for your facial. You will also need a cleanser, cold cream or light vegetable oil, soft cloth for wiping residue, toner and a light moisturizer. Herbal Teas As A Steam FacialYou can add skin friendly herbs like green tea, peppermint, chamomile, calendula and lavender in your steaming water. Steep one herbal teabag in a cup and add to the heating water. Chamomile is related to ragweed so be sure you are aware of any potential reactions before using chamomile or any herbal product. If you are in doubt about any herbal ingredient, do not use it. A simple steam facial will deep cleanse your face. Start With A Clean FaceRemove make up and cleanse the face. You can use soap and water or whatever cleanser you prefer to use. Cleansing the skin first is an important step to any facial. Gently pat skin dry after cleansing and rinsing. Cleansing MassageThe next step is to massage the face gently in circular motions with the fingertips. Avoid the eye area. Use a cold cream or plain vegetable oil to reduce friction and pulling at the skin. Massaging the face will improve circulation and improve the appearance of the skin. Wipe away the residue left on the skin. Steam Facial For Deep Cleansing And Hydration The next step is a steam facial. A steam facial is done to open the pores and deep cleanse the skin. Put the water that has boiled into the bowl. It should be gently steaming. You may be burned if there is too much hot steam. The water should not be so hot and steaming that the steam burns you or that you are made uncomfortable. Use a towel to form a tent covering your head and the bowl. Hold your face one foot away from the bowl. Stay under the towel for five minutes. If it is too hot, wait for it to cool off a bit. Stop immediately if it is too hot or you feel burned. You Must Be ComfortableIf breathing the steam is too uncomfortable for you, wet a hand towel in hot water and press the extra water out of it. Place the towel on the face; again, do not use such hot water that you are burned. It should feel warm or slightly hot. Keep the towel on your face for up to five minutes. After the steam facial or hot towel treatment, wipe away any residue with a toner or plain distilled water. As A Finishing Touch, Seal In MoistureTo finish the facial, a light moisturizer or lotion is applied to the face. You do not want to clog the pores with a heavy cream. Gently apply with the fingertips and do not forget the eye area. For the eye area, use the little finger as this is the gentlest finger for the tender eye area. As facials deep cleanse the skin, it is natural to expect a few blemishes to pop up after a facial. For normal skin, the number of blemishes that appear after a facial will lessen. Your skin's appearance will be much improved with the regular use of facials. You can do a facial once a week or once a month depending on your schedule. People with sensitive skin, irritated skin, acne or rashes should not have a facial until their condition is cleared up as a facial may aggravate the condition.
