A few suggestions for green living found in Crissy Trask's book, "It's Easy Being Green"

Crissy Trask offers numerous helpful tips and resources for green living throughout her book, “It’s Easy Being Green: A Handbook for Earth-Friendly Living” (Gibbs Smith, 2006):

Buy a hemp shower curtain instead of a plastic one. “(A) shower curtain made of hemp will naturally resist mildew and is machine washable.”
Convert old soap-bar scraps into attractive shavings using a cheese grater, then place them in a decorative bowl near your bathroom or kitchen sink.
Check labels carefully to eliminate potentially harmful chemicals from the products you buy. “(Read) the packaging on products to find these statements: nontoxic, biodegradable, chlorine-free, phosphate-free, non-petroleum based, vegetable oil based, fragrance-free and no dyes.”
Unless you actually need hot water, keep your faucets turned to “cold.” “You’ll waste significant energy turning on the hot water even before hot water starts to flow.”
Avoid conventional antifreezes and choose “extended life” varieties if more eco-friendly options aren’t available. Your best bet, Trask writes, is to “(b)uy antifreeze made from propylene glcol, which is lower in toxins and biodegradable, or recycled antifreeze.”
